Dr. Khandekar has over 40 years of experience in the field of ophthalmology and 25 years in epidemiology, particularly in the promotion of eye and ear health care. He is an expert in working with local governments to craft national strategies for awareness about and prevention of blindness and hearing loss in at-risk populations.
He is Canadian PR holder . He is currently the Chief of Ophthalmic Epidemiology and Low Vision services in the Research Department of Riyadh's King Khalid Eye Specialist Hospital. Over his long career as an experienced epidemiologist, he has acted as a consultant to the WHO and WHO member countries, various NGOs and other institutions. In last 10 years, he has actively participated in low vision rehabilitation after achieving skills by working with global experts. He has conducted training workshops for low vision assessment and care. Since 2012 he is also conducting training workshops for budding researchers to impart practical knowledge on how to plan, execute high quality research and then on its basis prepare presentations and manuscripts.
